Pop Goes the Easel
April 21st – May 19th
Opening Reception Saturday, April 21st | 6-9PM
Pop Goes the Easel is pure eye candy from the palate of two contemporary artists who both reside in Las Vegas.
Geoffrey Gersten‘s images of robots and American icons sets him in a class all his own. His most recent mural at the Tivoli Village in Las Vegas is a tribute to his skills as both a studio artist and muralist.
Jorge Macsorro has a long-standing recognition as an accomplished artist. His skill and eye for detail sets him a notch above his peers working in the Contemporary and Pop Surrealist movements.
If smiles and color is something you would like to bring into your world, don’t miss this show!
Macsorrro :
“…I refuse to write about myself as a third person, so you might find the following a bit blog-ish. My name is Jorge Macswiney and I make Pop Surrealist art under the name Macsorro. I was born in October 1981, in Michoacan Mexico.
Where do I get my inspiration? Everywhere and everyone. My wonderful wife and challenging children, people’s kindness, rudeness and problems. My technique? From old and new contemporary masters; Pieter Breugel, Anthony Von Dyck, Agnolo Bronzino, Aostino Carracci, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Mark Ryden and Chet Zar. Art for me is a never ending evolution, and when it stops I believe…so will my heart. So, untill then my clothes will all have some kind of paint on them and my family will grow older with me.
Two friends got me started showing my artwork in galleries, James and Mictlan, I haven’t stopped ever since. I work mostly out of a cluttered and badly lit studio, emerging now and then for tacos, a cold coke and the latest issue of Jux. I live in Los Angeles, it’s weird, gorgeous and challenging, I love it. I’m an observationalist of life, that’s what inspires me and that’s what I paint about so LA is the perfect place for that. I hope you enjoy my art…”

GEOFFREY GERSTEN Emerging from a traditional painting background, Geoffrey Gersten is a whimsical painter driven by classical beauty. Dropping out of an early career as a CAD designer, he fell into pursuit of a deep, intrinsic calling to create something meaningful. Self-taught since 2010, he settled into oil painting and an impassioned study of art history. These perennial inspirations coupled with a modernized palette have shaped a unique approach to forming a link between subculture art styles and the finer world of classical art history and exceptional technique.
Gem-like glazed surfaces belie the artist’s intent to convey the nuanced complexities of the human soul in context to the modern world around us and beauty of our natural earth which we are privileged to enjoy. Enriched by the delicacy of flora and fauna, a tableau of characters, pop-culture motifs alongside wide-eyed animals and robots inhabit their own tranquil universe. Gersten’s paintings relay a sense of mystery, while allowing a reflective viewer to identifying their own heart, invoking ephemeral emotions that we experience universally.
Geoffrey Gersten is an internationally represented artist. In addition to opening Gersten Fine Art in his home of Scottsdale, Arizona, his work is also seen in galleries and exhibitions spanning the US with solo exhibitions in Taiwan and Madrid.
